It’s Not Just One Problem
When you have the chance have a look at the Sasquatch Genome Project. As you look around, notice that it has a few problems.
I can’t really go into all of them largely because of the first problem; it’s not really organized. Things are a mess, and the PDFs available there look like the first draft of a small child with hyperactivity and attention deficit. It’s not a finished work.
I can go into a few things, so I will.
Other than the disorganization the most important flaw is the fact that the work it promised us wasn’t done. Nowhere could I see any sign of a genome. An actual genome, much as has been done for Humans, chimpanzees, Neanderthals, and other organisms. Hell, we even have a Denisovan genome, and the available DNA for that is rather scarce. Now you’d think that with all the sample Dr. Ketchum has she’d be able to get a Sasquatch genome done, and there are a number of labs able to do the work. According to this ad, at least one company can do it in 24 hours or less, though they don’t quote prices.
I expect that the Sasquatch is closely related to us. Probably not as closely related as the chimpanzee — 99.6% related — or the gorilla — 99% related, but still rather close. But note that it’s not how closely related the genetics are, but of how those genes are expressed. And let us not forget the impact of epigenetics on an organism. Last I heard a chimp’s DNA is rather messy, while ours looks like somebody took a scrub brush and strong soap to it. Not that it’s squeaky clean, but it’s a lot cleaner than the chimp’s.
So it’s more than likely you will find a lot of genes also found in gorillas, chimps, and humans. However, you will also find a lot of genes specific to Sasquatch. We have genes gorillas and chimps don’t have, and they have genes we don’t. Evolution doesn’t stop just because you have descendants of a new species of genus.
What we need is a proper genomic sequence and the proper comparison of that genome with that of other apes.
She has over a hundred, including saliva, blood, and tissue samples along with hair. That’s just of 2015. In a little more than a year she hasn’t gotten more? Can’t she share them? The deniers can’t have a look? Or is it only DNA from bones and teeth that qualify? I say that’s bigotry and I say that’s crap.
A Look at Other Flaws
The site also says that Sasquatch have language, even writing. They’re even supposed to be telepathic. How do they know that? Or are they just making shit up? I see what is purported to be evidence, but with no evidence backing it up. Dr. Ketchum just goes too far, and that hurts her cause. When it comes to science you want to keep it simple. Get the basics established then you can complicate them.
The Importance of Courtesy and Listening
I can understand how riled she gets when others are rude, but has Ketchum ever considered that other may see her as rude. She presents evidence, it gets rejected, and it’s all their fault. Does she give any thought to the idea that they just might be right? That the work needs to be better done? More completely done? Is asking nicely beyond her? Is ”please” not in her vocabulary?
Of course, this courtesy goes both ways. Is it a matter of the deniers not having the time, or of being reluctant to take the time? I have a question for those of you who deny the existence of Sasquatch; it would kill you to have a look at the available evidence instead of rejecting it out of hand? You have a spoon, taste the soup,
Both sides have problems, serious ones. Both sides have committed bad science and it is time that stopped. I have no authority, all I can lay claim to is an ounce of sense and the willingness to look. All parties in this controversy need to get off their high horses and do some real investigation instead of moaning and bitching about how unfair the world is. From what I’ve seen North America is home to a species of great ape who’s ancestors arrived here from eastern Eurasia sometime during a glacial period. A great ape that survives to this day.
I’ll address the question of why we haven’t found them yet in a later post.
Now, those of you with the tools have work to do. Copernicus was wrong as to why the Earth orbits the Sun, but he was right that it does. Ketchum is wrong about a number of things regarding the Sasquatch, but that does not mean she has to be wrong about the animal’s existence. Time to wake up and smell the ape shit.
