The World of Irth
Thought I’d write up a new RPG for Dangerous Journeys.
The guide is called Chivalry and it is set on the world of Irth. Irth is much like our Earth but with differences. Most important is the presence of working magick, which lead to changes in history. At present it is the year 1347 and thanks to magick events have transpired at did not here, and events that occurred here did not there.
For our purposes the most important changes lies in how and why the Romans of Irth did not fare as well as they did here. On Irth they could not conquer as our Romans did, and that largely because their Romans really didn’t work as hard as they might have on their use of magick. So while their empire did expand over time, that expansion was never to the extent our Roman Empire expanded.
Though perhaps the most important change in their history has to do with the matter of Jesus of Nazareth. On Irth Pilate had access via a mirror with Rome. Then Roman counselor Hadrian -Irth’s Romans never really had an empire or an emperor- gave him an order that he was to send Jesus to Rome to face justice there. So Jesus and his party, plus Caiaphas and his party and Herod and his party were sent to Rome for trial.
There Jesus learns that his natural father was in fact a Roman legionnaire, making Jesus a Roman citizen. Being accused of treason against Rome being a citizen he would suffer decapitation, which would pretty much stymie most any attempt at resurrection. But Hadrian rather liked Jesus of Nazareth, so together they concocted a compromise. Jesus would confess to treason, but then Hadrian would give him a full pardon. In return Jesus would then enlist his followers to work on reconciling with the Republic. In return for which the Romans would grant provisional independence. In return of the Jews agree to keep the peace in that area and facilitating cooperation with Rome. The three Jewish parties then reconciled and agree to a cooperation to keep matters settled in Judea
The Romans later withdrew their people from the area; Herod, Jesus, and Caiaphas worked together to get the radicals and the like settled down, and things pretty much settled down throughout the Republic. There was some degree of competition between Jew and Christian, but the Romans acceptance of the message The Creator gave Jonah regarding the Assyrians meant that Jew and Christian alike really had no trouble with spreading their message among the Romans and in converting many of those people to their respective versions of the Jewish faith. Though still the history of the later Republic was still a lot like the history of our Roman Empire.
And that’s your introduction of Chivalry and Irth, though there is a lot more to come. But that will have to wait for later. In the next posting I’ll be giving you a look at the Western Europe of Irth in 1347 starting with the Kingdom of France and her neighbors. And yes, there will be conflict.
