Persona in Mythus is the word used for the roles played by guide and player. A Persona is not exactly a playing piece with just one role, that of one's stand in. Rather, he can be taken as the player's avatar, an alternate to the player himself, allowing the player to pretend to be living in the setting of the adventure guide, and who the other players meet and interact with.
Species and Race
Now before we get to the Persona himself let's take a look at what species and races are available in Mythus
It strikes me that what another AG calls a race is better termed a species. Another"kind" with sufficient differences from the human to allow it designation as a species. Animals such as elves, orcs, dwarfs, goblins, and gnome for but a brief list. While a hobbit is technically a sort of hob-goblin, and that a sort of goblin, yet there are enough differences in my mind to list them as a separate species.
Now in Mythus at this time I don't have non-humans written up, but for the moment I can present the following guidelines. Namely that there are no limits as to which species you can play. Not all elves are of the upper class, nor all goblins in the lower. There are nobles among the orcs, and slaves among the gnomes. What SEC he belongs to is your business should you decide a die roll is not what you want.
That said there are races among the various species. For now I only have human races to present, but be assured that hobbits and kobolds do have different races on the typical Mythus setting, and for the most part those races are adapted to their environment. Later, as part of Persona Creation you will see tables for determining human races. Later I will present tables for determining dwarven, drowish, and other races, the better to place your Persona. Though be aware that you're not likely to find Afar Drow in the Orkney Isles north of Hibernia.
The First Step
And likely the simplest is your decision to make your Persona male or female. The choice is entirely up to you, for when you get right down to it we are either one or the other, for the most part. Though to be honest with you, we are also largely intersexed. That is, each of us has traits found in the other sex. With gender decided on you can now go on to determining race and SEC.
