In this story we learn that smart people tend to wander off track. For the most part it appears to be because being smart it really doesn’t take them all that much time to learn something, so their brains go off looking for more stuff to learn.
What this means is that schools that insist on treating all students alike are really causing serious damage. There are just some kids who need to be kept occupied, and when you let them get bored and restless they get into trouble.
Not only that, but we’re wasting a valuable resource. One kid learns fast, the other takes a bit longer. So when you have one person who understands why not ask him to teach the slower child?
Our goal really is not to keep control, our goal is to teach. So why not use what’s available to teach with?
