I’ve heard how autism is supposed to somehow benefit the afflicted. In a sense it does, but that benefit does not make up for the stress that comes with it.
As an autistic I’m somewhat more sensitive to the signals the world sends my way. I find it easier to notice things and to pick up on what’s going on around me. But I have a hard time handling this. It’s just too easy for me to be overwhelmed. Getting scared just because of what might happen is not what I call a benefit.
Adding to this is my need to talk with people about my housing situation, and that is adding to the stress. That one person in particular shows no understanding of what autism is and how it can affect people is not helping matters any. Autism is serious, autism can be disabling, and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it. If anything trying to stiffen your resolve and bull your way through an episode can even make things worse.
In any case your wishing me good fortune would be a help, and I wish good fortune for you should you be having troubles.
